But abusers are not yelling and saying nasty things because they are angry. Their actions are motivated by intimidation, not anger. Abuse is never about hurting another. It’s about controlling another. This is why abuse often escalates after the abuser feels a loss of power. It is usually when a woman tries to leave that she is killed.
