You have the Power to Change Lives

I’ve noticed a trend that is important to share.

I’ve been working on this platform for a month and I’ve learned a few things along the way that are worth sharing. Actually, not just worth sharing, they are incredibly important.

This piece isn’t about how to increase your presence on Medium.

This piece isn’t about how to “go viral” and make hundreds or thousands of dollars overnight.

This piece is about how people and their support changed my goals and priorities for the time I spend here, and how I am paying that forward.

Recently, I’ve seen more people interacting with my work here. When I say interacting, I don’t just mean clapping, I’ve seen highlights and responses too.

In the beginning, my initial reaction whenever I saw that someone had engaged with the piece was anxiety; I almost wished they hadn’t.

What if they didn’t like it? What if I didn’t do this right?

What if it was a mistake to ever think I could speak to other people through my writing?

None of the interactions have ever supported this negative self-talk.

In fact, they supported me in a way that I had never anticipated. I felt elevated and excited and enthusiastic that I was able to make an impact.

Someone, somewhere, took something away from what I had shared!

Someone, somewhere enjoyed what they were consuming!

I had made a difference and that is foremost what I have aimed to do.

This feeling of excitement and enthusiasm bestowed on me, as a result of the positive engagement and interaction I’ve experienced, is something that I want EVERYONE to be able to experience. It’s lifted my spirits up so high I don’t know that I’ll ever come back down.

As I have been lifted, I seek to elevate everyone I come across. I am committed to engaging with this community more often in an impactful way. When you are the recipient of this much positivity and support there is no way you can possibly contain yourself from putting all of that energy back into the universe, into your community, and into your tribe!

These small acts of kindness have fundamentally changed me.

Will things always feel this great? Probably not.

Will there be people who have constructive (and maybe not so constructive) criticisms for me at some point? I have no doubt about that.

Will this emotional and heart warming high last forever? Yes!

Why? Because knowing that I have made a difference has allowed me to fulfil the purpose of my life — or at least what I consider my purpose to be.

If this piece hasn’t clearly described the trend that is important to share, up to this point, let me make it crystal for you all.

I want to radiate the sunshine and joy that I am feeling through the screen to you right now!

I am committed to you. You who is reading this right now. I am dedicated to serving you through my writing. You who have gifted me with this sense of purpose and fulfillment, allow me to humbly make a difference for you.

Kindness matters. You have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life with the smallest action.

They may not remember what specific comment you left, or what section of their article you highlighted, but the feeling of happiness and purpose will stay with them, always.
